Cod Beck: Discovery Project

Welcome to the Cod Beck: Discovery project site. Here you will find information about the project and updates on events and citizen science surveys.

Project Aims

The Cod Beck: Discovery Project is a community-led initiative to collect information about the wildlife, habitats, history and cultural history of Cod Beck. The idea is that using this information, we will be able to identify priority sites for biodiversity protection, enhancement, or recovery. This will then lead to a further funding bid to support future plans. Our aim is to get the community involved as much as possible and to foster a love of the local area by building a meaningful relationship with the locality through surveys, citizen science and other activities surrounding the beck.

Friends of Cod Beck and the Flatts

This Facebook group was set up to put a spotlight on the fantastic green space on Thirsk’s doorstep and to protect and enhance The Flatts and Cod Beck. It also works to seek transparency in any dealings about these spaces and issues in the public interest.

It is a friendly and supportive community which champions members’ photos and shares informative posts about the wildlife and history of the beck.

Information about the project will be posted on the group periodically.

Events and how you can get involved

You can support this project by attending surveys, citizen science opportunities and joining events. You can join activities on an ad hoc basis, depending on what suits you best. There is no minimum commitment.

Or, you can fill in a volunteer form if you wish to support the project in other ways.

By providing an email on your form, you will automatically receive emails with the latest Newsletter and be the first to hear about events and citizen science surveys.

If you would like to lead a volunteer activity, e.g., a guided walk, you will need to register as a volunteer.
